Intel Core i5-9500 @ 3.00GHz

The Intel Core i5-9500 @ 3.00GHz processor belongs to the ninth generation of mid-range processors from the Intel. It is the logical evolution of the Core i5-8500, in which the processor frequency is improved. Having hit the market two generations later, we will see if the performance of the i5-9500 is up to the demands of the gamer world.

Intel Core i5-9500 @ 3.00GHz processor features

The first thing to consider is that this processor, like many of its generation, does not have Hyper Threading technology. This means that it does not have the ability to process multiple threads for each core. Therefore, it has 6 cores and the same number of threads. Additionally, it has 9 MB of Intel Smart Cache memory, accessible simultaneously from all its cores. The latter is an interesting feature, although the lack of multiple threads per core can be a drawback.

In terms of processing speed, the Intel Core i5-9500 @ 3.00GHz has a basic frequency of 3.00 GHz that reaches up to 4.50 GHz thanks to Turbo Boost 2.0 technology. This is a maximum 0.40 GHz improvement over its predecessor, the i5-8500. Furthermore, we can highlight that the thermal design power (TDP) did not change, despite this improvement in frequency. It is still 65 W, a very stable value that does not represent a challenge for current coolers.

Finally, we will highlight that the Intel Core i5-9500 @ 3.00GHz comes from the factory with integrated graphics . As is often the case with the brand’s processors, it is the Intel 630 UHD. They have a non-exclusive maximum memory capacity of 64 GB, and they have support for 4K at 60Hz resolutions. Not bad for integrated graphics, although it is always advisable to have a discrete GPU. On the other hand, this model does not support overclocking, and there is no K version either, as it happens with other processors.

Despite being two years old, this processor continues to be functional when it comes to a mid-range. Perhaps the weakest point is that it does not have multi-thread capacity, although its 6 cores are not negligible. With these features, we will have no problems when playing Age of Empires 4 or League of Legends in the highest resolution.

In short, we are talking about a mid-range processor that does what it promised for the moderate price we pay.
